A different Edward Cullen?

A Different Edward Cullen? The ‘Twilight’ Scenario That Never Came to Pass

Henry CavillThere was no chance that the actor who landed the lucky, life-changing role of Edward Cullen would not become an instant heartthrob. But could he have been someone entirely different, and still found a way into the hearts of Twilighters all over the world?

That’s the question that presents itself when one ponders the curious case of Henry Cavill.

We just published an interview over on the MTV Movies page with the 25-year-old “Whatever Works” actor, who was open and honest about his little-known “Twilight” past. In the early stages of the film’s development, author Stephenie Meyer publicly stated that the Edward she could see best fit for the part was British actor Cavill. Eventually, of course, the role went to RPattz with Stephenie’s blessing – but even then, she still said she’d love to get him into the series somewhere.

And while the chemistry between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart on-screen is undeniable, if things had worked out the way Meyer originally had hoped, the steamy on-screen interactions would have undoubtedly been fueled with a whole different feel.

Ever since the day the “Twilight” movie was announced, fans began naming their dream Edwards: Tom Sturridge, Logan Lerman, Gerard Way, etc. And it would seem that the combination of a young actor’s good looks, paired with the words of Meyer, would be an instant recipe for a million “OME!” fan-crushes around the globe.

So, we want to ask you: Try, as hard as it might be, to imagine anyone winning over quite as many hearts as Robert Pattinson. Could Twilighters have fallen as in love with a different actor who scored the role? Is RPattz simply irreplaceable? Or do you think fellow British stud Cavill could have filled Edward Cullen’s shoes just as successfully?

10 Visual Mistakes in Twilight the Movie

When Bella and Edward talk in the woods, Bella drops her backpack in front of a tree. In a subsequent shot, the backback has disappeared.

When Bella pulls up in her truck for her first day at Forks High, as the camera pans from her truck as she parks it into shot, you can see the camera and boom reflected in the triangular window.

When leaving from the baseball scene, Emmett's jeep goes from being dirty on the sides with mud from the tires, to being clean.

When Bella enters biology and Edward has finally returned, as she walks over to her desk the large book sitting on the edge repositions itself from sitting horizontally to vertically between shots. The bit of paper above it also moves closer to the edge.

After Edward saves Bella from being crushed by the van, while he is holding her, Bella's hair is outside of her jacket covering up her hood. When the shot changes her hair is tucked beneath the jacket and the hood is visible. When the shot changes back, her hair is covering up her hood.

In the scene where Edward reveals what he is to Bella, the button down shoulder epaulette on his jacket goes from being unbuttoned to being buttoned throughout the scene.

During the hospital scene, when Edward is "sleeping," his head goes from from leaning on one shoulder to suddenly on the other shoulder in the very next shot.

When Bella is at the hospital, the little plant by her left changes place. First it is under the lamp; later it is no longer under it.

When Bella is telling Charlie that she is going out with Edward and he is at the house to meet him, her ponytail keeps changing position from hanging down her neck to behind her shoulder.

Channing Tatum to play Riley

Rob Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Twilight, Channing Tatum

If Channing Tatum hasn’t read the Twilight books, he may want to start.

At least one very important person in the movie adaptations of Stephenie Meyer’s vampire love story thinks Tatum would be perfect to play bad-boy vampire Riley in Eclipse, the third in the four-book series.

“There’s a very big battle at the end with Riley, and I think Channing would do that so well,” Twilight and New Moon screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, who is currently writing the Eclipse script, told us this weekend at the Los Angeles Times Book Festival benefit for the Writers Guild Foundation.

“And there are some complexities to that character," she adds. "He really is tragic. He’s a puppet for Victoria [bad-girl vampire played by Rachelle Lefevre]. So he has to break your heart a little bit at the end when he realizes that she doesn’t want him. Channing could do that beautifully.”

Rosenberg also confirmed some good news for Robert Pattinson fans...

Even though Edward Cullen may not be in the New Moon novel as much as he is in the others, she promised we’ll be seeing plenty of the Brit actor in the flick, which is currently shooting in Vancouver with director Chris Weitz.

“In the book, he’s actually an enormous presence in [Bella’s] mind,” Rosenberg said. “He’s so present in her mind throughout the entire center of the book, so we really played off that, and it kept him alive in a slightly different way, but fans will feel it’s true to the book. You can’t have a Twilight without Rob Pattinson.”

And Rosenberg says you also can’t have a Twilight movie with anything more adult than a PG-13 rating. She has yet to be hired to write the script for the fourth, Breaking Dawn, but she thinks it’s safe to assume the book’s more graphic violent scenes will be tailored to keep it accessible for Twilight’s teen moviegoing audience.

“Our fans are in the PG age range, and I don’t feel a big necessity to see violence, and to see gore,” Rosenberg said. “I don’t need to see that. This whole series is more about their relationship. It’s not about the gore. I mean, there are some scary and special elements to it, but the series is really about relationships and coming of age and owning one’s power.”

Kirsten Stewart and Nikki Reed in Celeb Documentary

Twilight’ Stars Filming A Secret Movie? Nikki Reed Spills the Beans

By now, anybody with a pulse and a bookshelf knows that the “Twilight” movie was a big hit, and that sequels “New Moon,” “Eclipse” and most likely “Breaking Dawn” will be following it in the years to come. But even the biggest Twilighters might not be aware of one additional, secret “Twilight" flick that could be coming to a theater near you, courtesy of a few of the film’s stars.

“My brother goes to UCLA, and he’s making a documentary right now called ‘The Glorification of Celebrities’,” revealed Nikki Reed when we spoke with her a little while ago, explaining a small film that will feature herself, Kristen Stewart and other young stars commenting on the newfound power and pressure bestowed on them practically overnight. “’Twilight’ will play a role in it, but it is just about [exploring]: What is the definition of being a celebrity now?

Walk up to any supermarket checkout these days and you’ll be inundated with tabloid headlines screaming about what RPattz is up to, who Nikki is dating, or what outrageous quote KStew supposedly let slip. But as they’ve gone from relative unknowns to magazine-selling celebs, Reed’s brother Nathan has been chronicling the rise of the “Twilight” phenomenon with his camera.

“I think fans with be able to see this,” she said of the flick, which the Reeds expect to graduate beyond the little-seen world of student films. “I am trying to be as involved as I possibly can. I think ‘Twilight’ was a wonderful thing for him to use [in the film], because it escalated quite quickly. It went from being this little tiny book series that none of the actors really knew anything about to this explosion that happened somewhere around the summer [of 2008]; I started walking outside and people started yelling ‘Rosalie!’”

“My brother has been following that,” she explained. “And it’s great because I know Kristen [Stewart] and he gets to speak with her. And he has a reason to travel with me now.”

A fortunate side-effect from the experience, Reed explained, was that it has brought the two siblings closer together. “We realize now, as we get older, that he really didn’t understand me and I didn’t understand him,” she explained. “I moved out when I was fourteen, and it’s a long story - but he is doing wonderful things with his life.”

“He has been interviewing a lot of fans as well,” she said of “Glorification,” which will focus not only on “Twilight” stars, but also on what fame does to other overnight sensations in Hollywood. “There is a Nikki Reed’s Mafia group [that will be in the doc] - and if you guys are watching, thanks. Because they show up everywhere with signs.”

Is there an audience out there for Nikki’s brother’s film? Would you guys pay money to see “The Glorification of Celebrities” in theaters and/or buy a DVD? Something tells me you would!

Leading Role for Robert Pattinson

'Twilight' Star Robert Pattinson Lands Lead Role In 'Remember Me'

Film tells the story of star-crossed lovers plagued by family tragedy.

While Robert Pattinson is deep into filming the "Twilight" sequel "New Moon" for Summit Entertainment, the studio has tapped the 22-year-old British star for another project about star-crossed lovers.

Pattinson will play the lead role in "Remember Me," a story of a young couple whose burgeoning relationship is complicated by a succession of family tragedies that test their bond, according to ScreenDaily.com. The makers of the film, which had previously been titled "Memoirs," have not yet settled on which actress who will play Pattinson's love interest.

Emmy-winning director Allen Coulter ("The Sopranos," "Damages") will direct, and Jenny Lumet, who penned the script for last year's critical darling "Rachel Getting Married," is working on a draft of the screenplay.

After "New Moon" wraps in May, Pattinson will head to New York to shoot "Remember Me," which will finish in time for the actor to begin filming the third "Twilight" movie, "Eclipse," in August.

Summit is staying tight-lipped about plot specifics, but co-chairman and CEO Patrick Wachsberger likened "Remember Me" to "Love Story," the classic 1970 romance starring Ali MacGraw and Ryan O'Neal.

Landing the "Remember Me" lead marks the first major role for Pattinson since he rocketed to public adulation for his portrayal of vampire Edward Cullen in the "Twilight" franchise. He had been signed to appear alongside Rosario Dawson in "Parts per Billion," but was forced to drop out due to his "New Moon" commitment. Pattinson will next be seen in May's "Little Ashes," the Salvador DalĂ biopic he shot before "Twilight." His "Twilight" co-star Kristen Stewart has already landed some meaty roles since the vampire series became a big box-office success, including a turn as real-life rocker Joan Jett in "The Runaways."
